FAQ

How much does it cost to paint a house?

No two painting jobs are ever the same, so unfortunately, it's impossible to give a standard figure.

It would save us a lot of time quoting if we could!

Assuming we are talking about painting a home, some general things that affect the price are:

  • The size of the home & number of rooms being painted

  • The condition of the existing paint & substrate (peeling paint, dents & scratches)

  • If you are including the doors, trims, skirting & inside cupboards.

  • Neutral colours are cheaper as they use a standard base so are cheaper to purchase.

  • If there is difficult access (i.e., double storey homes) it could require scaffolding.

  • The quality of paint being used. We don't skimp here and use premium quality only on our jobs.
We also don't thin paint to stretch it further.

  • How much preparation the painter is going put in. Preparation is key to a good finish and can take as much as 70% of the job time to complete.

Then you have other factors which may add to the cost but will give you peace of mind and guarantee a good finish:

  • What is the experience level of the painter? Rob our owner/head painter has over 18 years experience.

  • Is the painter insured? Many cheaper painters do not have public liability insurance, we carry $20m public liability insurance and Workcover.

  • Does the painter provide a guarantee on their work? We provide a written 5-year guarantee.

  • Working with Children/Police Checks. Yes, we've got these.

  • Reliability. Usually, good service comes at a higher price, and if you are taking days off work to wait for a cheaper painter who doesn’t show up, then you are not better off.
We will be at your house on time every day, guaranteed. No shows are not an option.

Can you quote off plans?
Yes!
If you are building or renovating, please send your plans through and we can provide you with a quote to your specifications.

How long do I need to wait for my Quote?

We email our quotes out within a week of a site visit or receiving your plans.
We use this time to provide a detailed quote specifying the surfaces to be painted, preparation required, colours, sheen level etc. Check out our 'what to look for in a painting quote' page for more details on what you'll receive.

If I like the quote, when can you start?
Usually good trades have a waiting period because they are busy, be wary of trades who can start tomorrow!
If you are getting the inside of your home painted during winter, you may be lucky and get in sooner while the exterior jobs are put off for drier weather. Be patient, in the future you won't remember the wait time, but you will remember if you choose the painter who can start immediately, but turns out can't actually paint!

Do I need to clean the walls before you arrive?
No, we take care of all that for you.

Will you cover my furniture and floors with drop sheets?
Yes, all surfaces are protected while we work.

Do I need to be home while you work?
This is completely up to you. Some people prefer to be home, and some go about their lives as usual. You can rest assured that we take great care to respect the homes we work in and ensure the owners feel comfortable with us working in them.

Do you clean up afterwards?
Definitely!

As well as protecting surfaces during the job, we make sure no mess is left behind when we leave.

Can I supply the paint?
We prefer to supply the paint so we know you will get a good finish that will stand the test of time, but you can certainly supply the paint yourself if you would prefer. Due to many years of experience, we also know which paint brands and products will give the best finish for each circumstance.

I've bought a new home, should I get it painted before I move in?
Congratulations on your new home!
While painting an empty home is the ideal situation for us, it is entirely possible to paint a home while you are living in it. In fact, most of the time we paint homes that are occupied. As we have a smaller painting team, we have a smaller impact on your life while we are painting & we often work in homes with young children and pets. We also time painting of external doors and windows so they can be closed and locked at the end of each day.
If you move in before painting you will have the opportunity to live in your home and observe how light affects each room throughout the day, allowing you to make a clearer decision on paint colours.

Can you paint my business after hours?
Yes, often it is beneficial to paint businesses when they are closed, we are happy to facilitate this. In the case of 24-hour businesses or public areas, we can schedule work for quieter days/times.
